Call For Photos Effort in Wyoming Successful

Washington, D.C. – The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) now has a nearly complete collection of photos of the 120 Wyoming troops whose names are on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The Wyoming Veterans Commission and its subordinate museum institution, the Wyoming Veterans Memorial Museum, joined VVMF in the Call for Photos campaign in March 2011.

On May 30, the Museum presented VVMF with 82 images representing 69 of the Wyoming men on The Wall, adding to the images for 18 veterans that were submitted in August 2011 and the 30 that were previously available online. The result is that VVMF now has photos of 117 of the 120 Wyoming troops on The Wall. All three organizations are continuing the search for photos of the remaining three veterans. The Museum completed the majority of the research, tracking, digitizing, storing and coordinating this effort. The Commission helped the effort by locating families and news repositories, friends and more volunteers.  Two individuals unaffiliated with these organizations, Franklin Weir of Casper, Wy. and Mark Nelson of Salt Lake City,  Utah,  also helped in the search for photos.

With a groundbreaking planned for November 2012, the Center is a multi-million dollar, state-of- the-art visitor’s center and learning facility to be built on the grounds of the Vietnam Veterans and Lincoln Memorials. Visitors will better understand the profound impact the Vietnam War had on their friends and family members, their hometowns and the nation. The Center will feature the faces and stories of the 58,282 men and women on The Wall, honoring those who fell in Vietnam, those who fought and returned, as well as the friends and families of all who served.
