Father's Day Rose Remembrance

One of the most touching ceremonies each year, Father’s Day at The Wall features beautiful symbolism, emotional tributes, and elegant reverence in recognition of sons, fathers, brothers, and friends who perished in Vietnam. 

The ceremony, held on Father's Day, begins in early morning with the Rose Remembrance, an evocative annual tradition at the Wall.  Roses of red, symbolizing those killed in action, yellow, for those missing in action, and white, for those recently fallen in combat, are attached to written remembrances made out to names inscribed on the Wall.  The remembrances are then read aloud, as their corresponding rose is touched against the inscribed name and placed at the base of the Memorial. 
Family, friends, and other visitors watch in awe as the emotional ceremony concludes with a bed of roses surrounding the memorial, a breathtaking sight that demonstrates both the gratitude and the sacrifices of families impacted by foreign conflict.
